Proxodolol
(solution 1% (eye drops) – 1 ml N°10 Proxodololum
international nonproprietary name
Proxodolol.
Ref
BP-0115
Pharmacotherapeutic group
Alpha- and beta-adrenolytic agents.
Composition of the preparation
1 ml of eye drops contains proxodolol 10 mg.
Pharmacological action
Pharmacodynamics Proxodolol is nonselective b-adrenoblocker combining blocking action onto b-1,2 and a-adrenoreceptors. The preparation reduces intraocular pressure that is provided by the reduction in aqueous humor production and facilitation of its outflow. The effects starts in 15—30 minutes after instillation and its maximum is achieved in 4—6 hours. The preparation does not change the pupil diameter and eye accommodation, does not irritate the eye. Pharmacokinetics On local administration proxodolol penetrated rapidly through the cornea into the eye tissues. It gets into systemic blood flow in small quantities.
Indications
Proxodolol is used for reduction of intraocular pressure on primary angle-open and angle-closed glaucoma, on secondary glaucoma, on insufficient effect after antiglaucoma operations.

Dosage and method of administration

Side effects
The following case are possible: cardiac rhythm delay, reduction of systemic blood pressure (due to adrenoblocking action) and bronchospasmodic effect.
Contraindications
Instillation with proxodolol is contraindicated in patients with bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive lung diseases, heart failure, marked bradycardia.
Interactions with other medicinal preparations
The preparation can be used in combination with pilocarpine and/or clonidine drops.
