Composition of the preparation

1 ml of sterile solution (eye drops) contains 2.5 mg of levomycetin (chloramphenicol).

Pharmacological action

Pharmacodynamics Levomycetin is antibiotic of vast gamma of action, it is effective against many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, Rickettsia, spirochaeta and some other large viruses. The drug is active towards strains resistant to penicillin, streptomycine, sulphanilamides. It is poorly effective towards acid-resistant bacteria, blue pus bacillus, Clostridium and protozoa. Incommondosesitactsbacteriostatically. The mechanism of antibacterial action is related to breakage of protein bacterium synthesis. The drug resistance is developed slowly and usually without cross resistance to other chemio-therapeutic agents. Pharmacokinetics Therapeutic concentration of levomycetin under local intake is revealed in cornea, iris, vitreous body, (no in lens).
